The world’s longest-running Broadway musical is reimagined as a lavish immersive experience in Midtown West
After concluding its historic 35-year Broadway run in 2023, The Phantom of the Opera has made a dramatic return — this time in an entirely new form. Opening August 21 at 218 West 57th Street, “Masquerade” reintroduces Andrew Lloyd Webber’s iconic musical as an immersive production designed to transport audiences into the Paris Opera House of the late 19th century.
Helmed by Tony Award–winning director Diane Paulus, the production transforms traditional theater into a multi-room journey. Six groups of 60 guests at a time are guided through a series of richly detailed spaces, encountering Christine, the Phantom, and a supporting cast in intimate, overlapping performances. The experience merges the grandeur of Broadway with the intrigue of site-specific theater, drawing comparisons to Sleep No More.
Audiences are asked to attend in black, white, or silver cocktail attire, heightening the atmosphere of mystery and elegance. Masks are provided for those who do not bring their own. Performances run through October 19, 2025, with ticket prices starting at $211.50.
The cast includes Broadway veterans Hugh Panaro, Jeff Kready, Telly Leung, Kaley Ann Voorhees, and Anna Zavelson, among others, though each group experiences its own tailored version of the show.
Industry insiders see this adaptation as a natural evolution for a production that has long defined spectacle. “Phantom is an international brand, and reimagining it as an immersive event ensures its story continues to capture new generations,” one observer noted.
With its Midtown West location just steps from Billionaires’ Row, “Masquerade” adds another cultural landmark to the corridor — blending New York’s reputation for artistic innovation with one of Broadway’s most enduring legends.
