Let's Talk

57th Street Report

This Halloween, the immersive Phantom of the Opera–inspired experience, Masquerade, adds a hauntingly elegant touch to the night. On October 31, guests attending the performance at 218 West 57th Street (formerly Lee’s Art Shop) can enjoy a special after-hours celebration: Le Bal Macabre. This exclusive soirée takes place within the Phantom’s lair.

For those who want to enjoy the mystery without seeing the show, soiree-only tickets offer a rare chance to experience this spellbinding event.

A Reinvention of an Iconic Tale

Since opening on September 29, Masquerade has captivated audiences with a bold, immersive take on Gaston Leroux’s classic story. The production interprets the tale through the lens of Andrew Lloyd Webber’s legendary musical. Modeled after Sleep No More, this off-Broadway show immerses audiences in the story, turning them from observers into participants in the Phantom’s haunting world.

Each night, six intimate performance groups rotate through the experience. Each group is led by a different Phantom, portrayed by Jeff Kready, Telly Leung, Hugh Panaro, Kyle Scatliffe, Clay Singer, and Nik Walker (who returns for the Halloween show after starring in Bull Durham at Paper Mill Playhouse). Christine and Meg come to life through performances by Haile Ferrier, Eryn LeCroy, Francesca Mehrotra, Riley Noland, Kaley Ann Voorhees, and Anna Zavelson.

A Night of Mystery and Extravagance

The Le Bal Macabre celebration promises an unforgettable evening. Guests can enjoy live burlesque performances by The Box and dance to the “Music of the Night” beneath the show’s famed chandelier. Attendees are encouraged to embrace the night’s opulent aesthetic by wearing black, white, or silver attire, along with elaborate costumes or masks.

Masquerade recently welcomed new cast members, including Lee H. Alexander, Matthew Curiano, Nicole J. Fergeson, Michael Kuhn, Dario Natarelli, Alex Ross, Cooper Stanton, and Olivia Tarchick. They join an already extensive ensemble of acclaimed performers.

Behind the Scenes

Tony Award winner Diane Paulus (Waitress, 1776) directs the production. She leads a remarkable creative team, including Hunter Bird, Sidi Larbi Cherkaoui, Kathy Fabian, James Fluhr, Nicola Formichetti, Scott Pask, Emilio Sosa, Ben Stanton, and others. Together, they have reimagined one of theatre’s most enduring stories.

The venue is fully ADA accessible. Guests with specific accessibility needs can contact access@masqueradenyc.com before their visit.
