57th Street Report

The Louis Vuitton 57th Street flagship is officially entering a transformative new chapter as demolition progresses at 1 East 57th Street, marking the start of one of Manhattan’s most ambitious luxury retail projects. Situated on iconic Billionaires’ Row at the corner of Fifth Avenue and East 57th Street, the upcoming 485-foot tower will become the brand’s most architecturally bold expression in New York City.

This redevelopment, led by LVMH Moët Hennessy Louis Vuitton, will expand the existing structure by five additional floors, transforming it into a ten-story global flagship unlike anything currently on 57th Street.

A Monumental Transformation for the Louis Vuitton 57th Street Flagship

Interior demolition is now well underway, and the entire building remains wrapped in a spectacular, trunk-inspired scaffolding installation designed by Shohei Shigematsu of OMA. The façade—complete with the classic LV monogram, metallic buckles, leather-like straps, and corner protectors—has quickly become one of the most photographed sights on 57th Street, a striking symbol of luxury in transition.

This temporary design mirrors the dramatic scaffolding concept used for LVMH’s new Champs-Élysées flagship in Paris

Inside the Future Tower: A New Benchmark for Retail Luxury

When complete, the Louis Vuitton 57th Street flagship will offer:

  • Ten floors of retail and cultural programming

  • Four levels of exhibition and gallery space

  • Exclusive showroom suites

  • Multiple restaurants

  • A spa experience

  • The LV Café on the 8th floor with an outdoor terrace

  • A rooftop bar and garden

The first 420 feet of the structure will house these luxury spaces, while the upper 65 feet will form the mechanical crown and bulkhead—shaping a sculptural new presence along the 57th Street skyline.

Design diagrams reveal a glass curtain wall wrapped in twisting mullions, with gently curved corners that echo the soft geometry of Louis Vuitton’s iconic trunks.

57th Street’s Retail Evolution Continues

Louis Vuitton continues to operate from its temporary 7-year location at 6 East 57th Street, which opened in November 2024 and includes North America’s only LV Café.

Additionally, LVMH is expected to apply for a 25,000-square-foot floor-area bonus in exchange for accessibility upgrades to the Lexington Avenue–59th Street subway station, including a new ADA-accessible elevator—an improvement that will benefit thousands of daily commuters.

A Seasonal Icon on Fifth Avenue

As construction progresses, the intersection of Fifth Avenue and 57th Street is also illuminated by the 30-foot Fifth Avenue Snowflake, suspended high above the crossing. Covered in more than 16,500 crystal prisms and weighing 3,300 pounds, it adds a layer of holiday magic to one of New York’s most luxurious corners.

A New Landmark for Billionaires’ Row

As work advances, the Louis Vuitton 57th Street flagship is poised to become a defining architectural moment for Midtown Manhattan. With a blend of art, culture, retail, and hospitality woven into a single vertical experience, the tower will elevate both Fifth Avenue and 57th Street into the next era of luxury.

For now, the monogram-wrapped scaffolding stands as a preview of what’s to come: a future icon rising on Billionaires’ Row.
