57th Street Report
From October 3 through 23, Lincoln Center invites New Yorkers to experience the unexpected.
The Festival of Firsts, returning for its fourth edition, transforms the David Rubenstein Atrium into a vibrant stage for boundary-pushing creativity — and every performance is completely free.
This three-week cultural event shines a spotlight on artists making their New York City debuts, launching albums, premiering works, or stepping onto the Lincoln Center stage for the very first time. Each evening offers something entirely new: a chance to encounter bold voices, fresh perspectives, and unforgettable performances in an intimate, open setting.
A Festival Dedicated to New Beginnings
The Festival of Firsts embodies Lincoln Center’s commitment to accessibility and artistic discovery. Each night features a different act — ranging from experimental theater and genre-defying music to immersive performance art and reimagined cabaret.
The festival opens on October 3 with Reminiscicencia, a moving multimedia performance by Malicho Vaca Valenzuela, a Chilean artist whose work explores memory, technology, and cultural heritage. The following evening, Atlanta native Fusilier introduces Ambush, a debut punk-rock album blending funk, pop, and the artist’s exploration of queer Black identity.
Throughout the month, the lineup continues to surprise:
- October 9: Romanian-born vocalist Ana Everling brings her hypnotic blend of jazz and folk influences.
- October 10: Latin Grammy–nominated trio Darumas fills the Atrium with vibrant Latin funk energy.
- October 15: Philadelphia–New Jersey duo Love? Said the Commander offers haunting harmonies and stripped-down acoustic soundscapes.
- October 16: The immersive art collective Art Bath takes over with a multisensory mix of dance, opera, theater, and visual art curated by Mara Driscoll and Liz Yilmaz.
- October 17: Multidisciplinary artist Sparklemami fuses Brazilian jazz, Mexican bolero, and funk into a genre-bending live experience.
- October 22: Apocalypse Noir transforms the space into a drag-infused rock spectacle that’s equal parts performance art and Halloween fantasy.
- October 23: The festival closes with Briana Maia, the acclaimed R&B singer-songwriter known for collaborations with Ashanti, Trey Songz, and Mario — bringing the month to a soulful, powerful finale.

Where New York’s Creative Pulse Comes Alive
What makes the Festival of Firsts so uniquely New York is its ability to blur boundaries — between audience and performer, between art forms, and between the familiar and the experimental. In true Lincoln Center fashion, the event celebrates the diversity of expression that defines the city’s cultural DNA.
Beyond the performances, the David Rubenstein Atrium serves as the perfect venue: centrally located, open to the public, and designed for creative community engagement. For those who crave discovery, this festival is an invitation to experience art in its most authentic and unfiltered form.
With each performance free and first-come, first-served, audiences have the rare chance to witness emerging artists at pivotal moments in their careers — all within one of New York City’s most iconic cultural institutions.
Why You Should Go
Whether you’re a devoted follower of the arts or simply curious about what’s next in New York’s cultural scene, the Festival of Firsts offers an extraordinary opportunity to engage with creativity in motion. Expect music that defies genre, performances that challenge form, and artists who redefine what it means to make a debut on one of the world’s most prestigious stages.
