57th Street Report

The revitalization of 57th Street’s West Side continues as the iconic French-Vietnamese destination, Le Colonial, prepares for its highly anticipated return to Midtown. After a decade-long absence, the restaurant has signed a lease at 50 West 57th Street, a property owned by Vornado and LeFrak.

French-Vietnamese restaurant Le Colonial will return to Midtown in 2027 when it opens at 50 W. 57th St.

Occupying 9,600 square feet across three indoor levels, the new flagship will feature the brand’s signature “elegant-tropical” aesthetic alongside outdoor sidewalk seating. This move represents a significant step in activating the long block between Fifth and Sixth Avenues, which has recently been characterized by large-scale development sites.

Le Colonial’s now-shuttered location at 149 E. 57th St.

Founded by Rick Wahlstedt with partner Frederick Lesort, Le Colonial’s return reinforces 57th Street’s status as a premier “lifestyle ecosystem” where Michelin-level dining and luxury residences converge.
