Bonhams will open its new U.S. headquarters at Steinway Hall, 111 West 57th Street, on February 9, 2026. The move places the international auction house at the center of Midtown Manhattan’s cultural corridor and represents a major expansion of its New York presence.
The new flagship will span approximately 42,000 square feet, offering about 30 percent more space than Bonhams’ current Madison Avenue showroom. The relocation underscores the company’s long-term commitment to the U.S. market and its ambition to scale operations in New York City.

A New Chapter for Bonhams in New York
According to Lilly Chan, Managing Director of Bonhams U.S., the new headquarters will redefine the company’s approach in the American market. The Steinway Hall location allows Bonhams to combine its historic legacy with a modern vision for growth.
The expanded space will support larger exhibitions, marquee auctions, and a broader range of cultural programming. Bonhams aims to create a destination that appeals not only to collectors, but also to the wider public.
Inside Steinway Hall
Bonhams will occupy the historic base of Steinway Hall, now topped by the slender residential tower above it. The tower is widely recognized as the world’s thinnest skyscraper.
Architectural highlights include the restored Steinway Rotunda and an 80-foot glass atrium that serves as the main lobby. A grand staircase leads to a dramatic triple-height gallery featuring two dedicated auction rooms.

Expanded Programming and Cultural Events
At Steinway Hall, Bonhams plans to move beyond the traditional auction house model. The space will host free public exhibitions, guest installations, and events across more than 60 collecting categories.
Early programming will include the display of a 1910 Steinway & Sons piano once used by Elton John. The piano will be exhibited and featured in guest performances before being offered at auction.
Bonhams’ 2026 New York calendar will also include an exhibition of modern Cuban painters, special programming for Asia Week, and major fine art auctions in May.
Restoring a 57th Street Landmark
Bonhams’ opening will mark the reopening of Steinway Hall to the public after nearly a decade. JDS Development Group has led the restoration, honoring the building’s original neoclassical design by Warren & Wetmore.
Interior architecture by Gensler blends modern finishes with historic limestone elements. Interior design by Nada Sawires of Design X Nada adds bespoke details using glass, stone, and liquid metals.
With its new flagship on West 57th Street, Bonhams further strengthens the area’s reputation as a global destination for art, culture, and luxury.
